Before the spindles can be cut to length, the bow needs to be drilled, to facilitate measuring the spindle lengths. I use a jig for this drilling, although I originally learned to do this without the jig. The jig makes a fairly difficult task (for me) more accurate and reliable, and quicker as well. One thing of note - at this point I have hours of work invested in the bow - messing it up during drilling is really a bummer.
