A large amount of the wood I use is sustainably harvested from conserved land in Williamstown, VT. My dear VT friends have placed a large amount of their land into conservatorship with the Vermont Land Trust. They now manage this land for the benefit of all types of wildlife, as well as to be able to selectively harvest timber from it. As part of this timber management process, they cull smaller, less desirable trees, in order to encourage more high quality growth from more desirable trees. These culls are perfect for making into chairs, and are a wonderful way of seeing that everything gets put to good use. I use their Sugar Maple for legs and stretchers, and their White Ash for spindles and bows. We’re currently experimenting with different available wood choices for seats.
