Seat Preparation

The seats are made from rough sawn Eastern white pine. The pieces get cut to approximate length (oversize by a few inches for easier clamping later), then flattened. Since I don't have stock wide enough for a seat, I need to glue pieces together - this is not out of the ordinary, it's actually better in some ways to use multiple pieces to make a seat, and the glue joints are every bit as strong, and almost invisible, if they are done correctly.

A no. 5 Jack Plane is used to do the initial flattening

Shavings add up quickly

Ready for edge jointing
This is the seat template that I will use later when I cut out the basic shape on the bandsaw. All I'm doing here is making sure that these 2 boards will be wide enough once glued together.
