This table is a variation of a design by John Hartman published in Fine Woodworking magazine (number 289). I’ve made it in both White Oak and Cherry. The “fuming” of the White Oak was done with dyes and stain, as I have found industrial strength ammonia to be very unpleasant to work with. The original design has a stylized flower cut into the end panel, which was the only part of the design I didn’t like. I came up with the idea of carving designs into panels which are then inset into the ends. I have a good friend who is a talented woodblock artist and they carved these panels based upon discussions with my clients.
